The Best and Worst Moments From the 2026 Actor Awards

From Harrison Ford’s career-defining speech to that table tennis bit no one asked for, the newly rebranded ceremony gave us plenty to debate.

An awards show isn’t successful unless it leaves us with something to argue about the next morning.

The 2026 Actor Awards — formerly the SAG Awards — delivered exactly that. Kristen Bell hosted the first ceremony under its streamlined name, Netflix streamed it live, and Hollywood’s actors celebrated their own. Some moments felt instant-classic. Others… felt like rehearsal sketches that should’ve stayed there.

Here’s what worked — and what absolutely did not.

BEST: Michael J. Fox Reminds Everyone Why We Love Actors

The opening “I Am an Actor” montage remains one of the ceremony’s most reliable traditions, and this year it landed perfectly.

Teyana Taylor cracked Titanic jokes. Kate Hudson’s brother Oliver made faces in the crowd. But when the camera cut to Michael J. Fox — and the room erupted — the night found its emotional center.

Fox spoke about how acting led him to Tracy Pollan and their four children. Then he landed it simply:

“I’m Michael J. Fox. I’m a dad and I’m an actor.”

No production gimmick required.

BEST: The Swearing (Yes, Really)

Streaming has its perks.

Teyana Taylor opened the floodgates with a Titanic line that included the phrase “he could’ve fit his ass on that goddamn door,” and the authenticity was refreshing. Kristen Bell and Connor Storrie followed suit.

It wasn’t edgy for the sake of being edgy. It felt like actors talking like actors.

BEST: Keri Russell Finally Gets Her Flowers

Not enough people watch The Diplomat — and that made Keri Russell’s win for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series all the sweeter.

After three consecutive nominations, Russell triumphed over Britt Lower, Parker Posey, Rhea Seehorn and Aimee Lou Wood. It was surprising. It was deserved. And it was long overdue.

WORST: The Table Tennis Bit

When Bell announced recurring table tennis segments throughout the night, it sounded mildly chaotic in theory.

In practice? Watching celebrities who are not professional athletes play ping-pong is exactly as compelling as it sounds.

The joke didn’t escalate. It didn’t evolve. It just… existed.

BEST: Seth Rogen Honors Catherine O’Hara

Catherine O’Hara’s posthumous win for The Studio could have been solemn. Instead, Seth Rogen made it deeply personal.

He spoke about her relentless instinct to rewrite scenes to make them sharper — and how 100 percent of the time, she made everything better. Then he said something that stuck:

“She showed that you can be a genius and be kind.”

The room felt it.

WORST: The Hamnet Bit That Wouldn’t End

Megan Stalter and Paul W. Downs poking fun at their “cut roles” from Hamnet was funny — for about thirty seconds.

Then the bit stretched. And stretched. And suddenly the camera had cut to Jessie Buckley laughing three times, and you could feel the momentum evaporating.

Comedy works best when it leaves early.

BEST: Noah Wyle’s Proud Dad Energy

When The Pitt won Drama Ensemble, Noah Wyle looked like the proudest man in the room.

“I was so desirous of this one for this cast,” he said, before turning to his co-stars and asking if anyone else wanted to speak.

No ego. Just pride. It was understated and deeply charming.

BEST: Harrison Ford Steals the Night

Harrison Ford accepting the Life Achievement Award was the emotional high point.

He joked about receiving “a prize for being alive.” He said it might be “a little early.” And then he spoke about storytelling as empathy, imagination and shared humanity.

“Sometimes we make entertainment. Sometimes we make art. Sometimes, if we’re lucky, we make both.”

Not a dry eye in the Shrine.

Then he ended it with, “This is very encouraging.”

Of course he did.

BEST/WORST: The In Memoriam Performance Choice

Miles Caton singing “This Little Light of Mine” was beautiful. No debate there.

But placing it immediately after the In Memoriam montage created tonal confusion. The performance was strong enough to stand alone. Instead, it felt slightly disjointed.

A good idea. Questionable placement.

BEST: The Sinners Sweep

The room knew before the envelope was opened.

Michael B. Jordan winning Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role over Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke and Jesse Plemons felt both surprising and entirely correct. The standing ovation said everything.

Then Sinners took Ensemble.

A clean, celebratory ending. No controversy. Just joy.

The 2026 Actor Awards may be adjusting to a new name, but the formula remains the same: let actors celebrate actors — and occasionally let them swear while doing it.
