2026 Emmy Nominations: Full List of Major Nominees Led by ‘The Pitt,’ ‘Hacks’ and ‘Widow’s Bay’

‘The Pitt’ leads all programs with 25 nominations, while ‘Hacks’ sets a new comedy-series record and ‘Widow’s Bay’ emerges as the year’s biggest new-show breakout.

The 2026 Emmy nominations are officially here, and ‘The Pitt’ is leading the field.

HBO Max’s acclaimed medical drama landed 25 nominations for its second season, the most of any program this year. The haul gives ‘The Pitt’ a commanding position heading into final voting and confirms the show as one of the Television Academy’s biggest current favorites. After winning big last year, the series is not merely holding its ground. It is expanding its Emmy footprint.

Close behind is ‘Hacks,’ which earned 24 nominations for its final season. That total sets a new single-year record for a comedy series, giving HBO Max another major awards-season weapon and reinforcing the show’s status as one of the defining Emmy comedies of the decade. With Jean Smart, Hannah Einbinder, Megan Stalter, guest performers and multiple creative categories all in play, ‘Hacks’ enters the next stage of the race with enormous momentum.

The morning’s biggest breakout, however, may be ‘Widow’s Bay.’ Apple TV’s rookie horror-comedy scored 19 nominations, the most for any new show this year. That is a massive showing for a series that surged late in the eligibility window and turned into one of nomination morning’s clearest success stories. With nominations for comedy series, Matthew Rhys, Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Dale Dickey, Betty Gilpin, Hamish Linklater and more, ‘Widow’s Bay’ is no longer an outside curiosity. It is a serious Emmy player.

Other double-digit nomination leaders include ‘Pluribus’ with 18 nominations, ‘Beef’ with 16, ‘DTF St. Louis’ with 13, and both ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘Spider-Noir’ with 11 each. HBO Max led all networks and platforms overall with 122 nominations, giving the streamer another dominant Emmy morning. Netflix followed as a major force, while Apple TV set a company record with 87 nominations and made one of the strongest arguments of any platform in the major categories.

Apple TV’s showing is especially impressive because of where those nominations landed. The streamer scored three drama series nominations for ‘Pluribus,’ ‘Slow Horses’ and ‘Your Friends & Neighbors,’ plus three comedy series nominations for ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles,’ ‘Shrinking’ and ‘Widow’s Bay.’ It also collected 24 acting nominations, a sign that voters are not only recognizing Apple’s shows in craft or prestige categories, but responding to their ensembles.

The drama series lineup includes ‘The Diplomat,’ ‘The Gilded Age,’ ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,’ ‘Paradise,’ ‘The Pitt,’ ‘Pluribus,’ ‘Slow Horses’ and ‘Your Friends & Neighbors.’ The inclusion of ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’ is one of the morning’s more surprising developments, especially after the show’s earlier Emmy presence was limited. Its nomination suggests that Apple’s drama strength ran deeper than many expected.

Several high-profile final seasons missed drama series, including ‘Euphoria,’ ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘The Boys,’ despite prior recognition from the Television Academy. ‘Euphoria’ still landed Zendaya in drama actress, but the absence of those three shows from the top drama race is a reminder that final-season visibility does not automatically translate into farewell support.

Taylor Sheridan’s television universe also largely missed the major Emmy conversation. ‘Landman’ and ‘The Madison’ had plausible paths into drama and acting categories, but neither broke through in the top races. ‘Tulsa King’ managed a stunt coordination nomination, but the broader Sheridan brand remains a difficult fit for the Television Academy, despite its commercial power.

In comedy, the nominated series are ‘Abbott Elementary,’ ‘The Bear,’ ‘Hacks,’ ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles,’ ‘Nobody Wants This,’ ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ ‘Shrinking’ and ‘Widow’s Bay.’ The field confirms the continued strength of HBO Max and Apple TV while keeping ABC’s ‘Abbott Elementary’ alive as broadcast television’s strongest top-category player.

‘The Bear’ made the comedy series lineup but showed signs of vulnerability. The FX/Hulu series earned eight total nominations, a notable decline from its past Emmy dominance. Ayo Edebiri was the show’s only series regular nominated for acting this year, while previous winner Liza Colón-Zayas missed the cut. The show remains in the race, but it no longer looks like the overwhelming Emmy force it once was.

Limited or anthology series went to ‘All Her Fault,’ ‘The Beast in Me,’ ‘Beef,’ ‘DTF St. Louis’ and ‘Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.’ ‘Beef’ led the limited field with 16 nominations and now looks like one of the category’s strongest contenders, especially with recognition for Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, Youn Yuh-jung and major creative categories.

‘Love Story’ made the limited series lineup but landed fewer nominations than expected, while ‘DTF St. Louis’ showed real acting strength with nominations for Jason Bateman, David Harbour, Richard Jenkins, Linda Cardellini and Joy Sunday. Peacock’s ‘All Her Fault’ also broke into the top category, with Sarah Snook and Dakota Fanning recognized in acting races.

The drama acting categories were heavily shaped by ‘The Pitt.’ Noah Wyle landed in lead actor, while Taylor Dearden, Fiona Dourif, Katherine LaNasa and Sepideh Moafi all made supporting actress. Patrick Ball, Shawn Hatosy and Gerran Howell landed in supporting actor. That kind of ensemble showing is exactly what turns a series frontrunner into a possible sweep threat.

Rhea Seehorn was nominated for lead actress in a drama for ‘Pluribus,’ joined by Carrie Coon for ‘The Gilded Age,’ Chase Infiniti for ‘The Testaments,’ Keri Russell for ‘The Diplomat’ and Zendaya for ‘Euphoria.’ Lead actor in a drama includes Sterling K. Brown for ‘Paradise,’ Gary Oldman for ‘Slow Horses,’ Mark Ruffalo for ‘Task,’ Rufus Sewell for ‘The Diplomat’ and Wyle for ‘The Pitt.’

Comedy acting delivered a mix of favorites and surprises. Jean Smart returned for ‘Hacks,’ alongside Quinta Brunson for ‘Abbott Elementary,’ Ayo Edebiri for ‘The Bear,’ Elle Fanning for ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ and Lisa Kudrow for ‘The Comeback.’ Lead actor in a comedy includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II for ‘Wonder Man,’ Steve Carell for ‘Rooster,’ Matthew Rhys for ‘Widow’s Bay,’ Jason Segel for ‘Shrinking’ and Martin Short for ‘Only Murders in the Building.’

Supporting comedy reflected the strength of both ‘Hacks’ and ‘Widow’s Bay.’ Hannah Einbinder, Megan Stalter, Leslie Bibb, Cherry Jones, Laurie Metcalf and Kaitlin Olson were all recognized across ‘Hacks’ acting categories, while ‘Widow’s Bay’ landed nominations for Dale Dickey, Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Betty Gilpin and Hamish Linklater. The Apple TV series now has enough acting depth to be considered one of the season’s biggest ensemble breakouts.

The television movie nominees are ‘Heads of State,’ ‘Miss You, Love You,’ ‘People We Meet on Vacation,’ ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ and ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War.’ In variety series, the nominees are ‘The Daily Show,’ ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!,’ ‘Last Week Tonight With John Oliver,’ ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ and ‘Saturday Night Live.’

Reality competition produced one of the most striking shifts of the morning. ‘Dancing With the Stars’ returned to the category for the first time in years, joining ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ ‘Survivor,’ ‘Top Chef’ and ‘The Traitors.’ Missing from the lineup is ‘The Amazing Race,’ one of the most decorated programs in the category’s history and a long-running Emmy staple. Its absence marks one of the day’s most notable category shakeups.

The nominations were announced by past Emmy winners Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller from the Television Academy’s Saban Media Center, following an earlier announcement of the first two categories on ‘Today.’ The TV Academy had initially planned to reveal this year’s nominees in two batches, but ultimately announced the full list on July 8 to better accommodate campaign schedules.

Mariska Hargitay will host the 2026 Emmys, which air live on NBC and Peacock on Monday, Sept. 14. Hargitay is also a nominee this year for the HBO documentary ‘My Mom Jayne,’ which earned three nominations, including documentary or nonfiction special and directing for Hargitay. The Creative Arts Emmys will take place Sept. 5 and 6.

For now, the story of the morning is clear: ‘The Pitt’ is the drama powerhouse, ‘Hacks’ remains comedy royalty, ‘Widow’s Bay’ is the breakout, ‘Beef’ leads limited series and Apple TV has fully arrived as an Emmy heavyweight. The nominations did not just confirm the frontrunners. They reshaped the race.

That kind of depth usually matters more than one flashy headline nomination.

‘Hacks’ also looks formidable. A record-setting 24 nominations for a comedy series is not just a final-season victory lap; it is a statement of continued affection across the Television Academy. The show has actors, guests, writing, directing and below-the-line support all working in its favor, which makes it difficult to imagine the comedy race without ‘Hacks’ at the center of it.

The wild card is ‘Widow’s Bay.’ With 19 nominations, Apple TV’s rookie horror-comedy went from late-breaking curiosity to full Emmy powerhouse almost overnight. Its presence across comedy series, acting, directing, writing, editing, casting and craft categories suggests voters did more than sample the show. They embraced it. Combined with strong showings for ‘Pluribus,’ ‘Shrinking,’ ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ and ‘Slow Horses,’ Apple TV may have had the most meaningful nomination morning of any platform.

There were also real shocks. ‘The Amazing Race’ missed reality competition after years of dominance. Taylor Sheridan’s shows were largely shut out again despite massive visibility. ‘The Bear’ made comedy series but looked far weaker than in past seasons. ‘Stranger Things,’ ‘Euphoria’ and ‘The Boys’ all missed drama series in their final Emmy cycles, proving that farewell momentum only goes so far when voters are ready to move on.

Final voting now begins with three apparent frontrunners: ‘The Pitt’ in drama, ‘Hacks’ in comedy and ‘Beef’ in limited series. But nomination morning also made one thing clear: this Emmy race has more moving parts than expected, and the shows with the deepest support across the ballot may be the ones that matter most when trophies are finally handed out.
