What to Watch in July: ‘The Odyssey,’ ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ ‘Moana,’ ‘Silo’ and More

July is shaping up to be one of the busiest entertainment months of the summer, with theatrical blockbusters, major streaming premieres, returning fan-favorite shows and several franchise swings arriving across nearly every major platform. Whether audiences are looking for family movies, superhero spectacle, prestige sci-fi, horror, comedy or teen romance, the month has very little empty space on the calendar.

The biggest theatrical conversation will likely belong to Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ and Marvel’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ two late-July releases that bring very different kinds of event-movie energy. Nolan is going mythic and massive with an IMAX-shot Homer adaptation, while Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker in one of the summer’s most closely watched superhero releases.

Streaming is just as crowded. Netflix has ‘Enola Holmes 3,’ ‘Human Vapor,’ ‘Little House on the Prairie,’ ‘The Hawk’ and ‘Heartstopper Forever.’ Apple TV brings back ‘Silo’ and launches ‘Lucky’ and ‘The Dink.’ Disney+ has ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 and ‘Descendants: Wicked Wonderland,’ while Prime Video returns to Gotham with ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ Season 2.

‘Minions & Monsters’

The latest ‘Despicable Me’ spin-off takes the Minions to 1920s Hollywood, where they search for the perfect lead actor for their new monster movie. Pierre Coffin returns as writer-director and the voice of the Minions, with Jeff Bridges, Allison Janney, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch and Christoph Waltz among the voice cast.

‘Elle’

The series gives one of pop culture’s most beloved characters an origin story built around reinvention, ambition and finding her voice before law school ever enters the picture.

‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2

‘Enola Holmes 3’

‘Human Vapor’
