‘The Batman: Part II’ Expands Cast With Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan Confirmed by Matt Reeves

Matt Reeves has officially confirmed new additions to The Batman: Part II cast, with Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan joining the DC sequel ahead of its 2027 release.

The Batman: Part II is continuing to take shape, with director Matt Reeves confirming new additions to the ensemble cast as production moves forward on the highly anticipated DC sequel.

Reeves took to X on Thursday to reveal that Scarlett Johansson will officially join the film, sharing a gif from Under the Skin alongside the caption, “Next exit, Gotham… Welcome.” While no details about her character were revealed, the announcement confirms her involvement after earlier reports indicated she was in final negotiations for the project.

Johansson, best known for her role as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is expected to begin work on The Batman: Part II following commitments on other upcoming projects, including The Exorcist.

Reeves followed up the announcement by confirming that Sebastian Stan will also be joining the sequel, posting a separate X message featuring a gif of the actor and writing, “In a Gotham state of mind… Welcome.” Stan, who recently starred in Thunderbolts, has previously been rumored for the role of Harvey Dent, though his official character has not yet been confirmed.

Reports have also suggested that Charles Dance is in talks to portray Harvey Dent’s father, further expanding Gotham’s political and criminal landscape in the sequel. Both Johansson and Stan previously appeared together in Marvel’s Avengers films, marking another crossover between major superhero franchises.

Reeves returns to direct the follow-up to 2022’s The Batman, which grossed over $772 million worldwide and established a darker, standalone interpretation of Gotham City outside the main DC Universe continuity. He co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin.

Production on The Batman: Part II has officially begun, with Reeves confirming earlier this month that filming is underway. The film is currently scheduled for theatrical release on October 1, 2027.

As the cast continues to expand, Reeves has been steadily revealing updates via social media, gradually assembling one of the most closely watched ensembles in modern superhero cinema.
