George Clooney to Receive the 51st Chaplin Award from Film at Lincoln Center in 2026

Film at Lincoln Center has officially announced that George Clooney will receive the prestigious 51st Chaplin Award at its annual gala, set for April 27, 2026. The honor recognizes Clooney’s far-reaching impact on cinema — not only as a performer and storyteller, but as a humanitarian whose influence extends far beyond the screen. Few contemporary figures embody the blend of artistry, advocacy, and longevity that defines recipients of this award, placing Clooney in the company of icons such as Martin Scorsese, Viola Davis, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, and Robert Redford.

The announcement arrives months after Clooney’s appearance at the 63rd New York Film Festival, where he attended the premiere of Jay Kelly. Daniel Battsek, President of Film at Lincoln Center, called that moment a highlight of the festival and underscored Clooney’s unique place in the industry. Battsek described him as a figure whose work reflects intelligence, purpose, and an uncommon ability to move between acting, directing, and producing with equal precision.

Film at Lincoln Center’s Board Chairman, Dan Stern, echoed the sentiment, framing Clooney as a rare presence in modern Hollywood — an artist whose charisma on screen is matched only by his generosity off it. Clooney has long championed emerging voices and has consistently used his platform to amplify urgent global issues. It is that mix of excellence, mentorship, and moral clarity that Stern says makes him an ideal honoree for the Chaplin Award.
